APPOINTMENT St. Matthew’s Cathedral, Timmins & St. Paul’s Church, South Porcupine Sunday, April 1, 2011 (Lent 4 - Mothering Sunday)
I am pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Dr. Gregory Charles Gilson as the Rector of the new combined parishes of St. Matthew’s Cathedral and St. Paul’s Church, South Porcupine, and Dean- designate of the Diocese of Moosonee, effective July 1st, 2011.
Fr. Gilson is presently the Rector of Dawson Creek and Pouce Coupe in the Diocese of Caledona, BC. He originates from south western Ontario and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Renison College, Waterloo University, 1981,and a Master of Divinity degree from Huron College, London, Ontario, 1985, He also holds a Doctor of Divinity Degree from Ashfield Theological Seminary, Ashfield, Ohio, 2003.
Dr. Gilson was ordained in the Diocese of Huron and served 19 years in various parishes. In 2004 he became Rector of his present parish and was collated Archdeacon of Caledonia East. In 2003 he produced a book entitled “Spiritual Development by Personality Type”.
Dr. Gilson has spent much of his ordained career helping congregations achieve growth and financial stability and has led congregations that were on the verge of closure, to positions of sustained growth; spiritually, numerically and in financial stability.
Greg is married to Valerie and they have one daughter, Anastasijia, aged 13 . Greg has 2 adult children from a previous marriage, Mchael, aged 28 and Courtney, aged 26.. The Gilsons will be living in St. Paul’s Rectory.
